Anonymous asked: So this is probably going to be a bit awkward, but it's been bugging me lately. My sex education was very limited. (Various forms of birth control, sti's/std's) but we learned nothing about actual sex and how it happens. I know a few ways a man and a woman can have sex, a couple ways two men can have sex, but little to nothing about two women having sex. (People have mentioned strap-ons, and double-sided dildos, but nothing else.) Do women need to be 'prepared'? Please, help me!
no worries, anon! this is a great question!
there are so, so many ways for two (or more!) female-identified people to have sex. some people like to use their hands and fingers, some use their mouths, some use sex toys, and others like to use a combination of these or make up something new!
dildos can be secured in harnesses that fit on the pelvis (strap-ons), can be double-ended and can fit inside of a partner, may be handheld or can be secured on a non-porous surface with a suction cup. (!) some vibrate, some don’t, and all come in an exciting array of various shapes, sizes, colors and textures.
if you’re in the market for a sex toy, Babeland and Smitten Kitten are two awesome sites!
if by ‘prepared’, you mean ‘equipped with safer sex supplies and the knowledge to use them’, then yes! women-identified folk are just as vulnerable to STIs/STDs during lesbian sex as they are during ‘straight’/hetero intercourse, so safer sex supplies are still just as important. you can use a wide array of things to protect yourself during lesbian sex, such as dental dams or plastic wrap, gloves (nitrile or latex) and condoms (to go over your sex toys/yourself).
if you’re curious about girl-on-girl sex, Autostraddle (one of PP’s favorite sites) has a great post about having lesbian sex for the first time. you might also want to check out The Guide to Getting It On and The Whole Lesbian Sex Book.
whenever you’re having sexytimes with someone else, remember these three things:
1) safer sex is important.
2) communication and consent are key!
3) do what feels good for yourself and your partner(s).
hope this helps. (happy humping!)
