Dear Rep. Bachmann [and other radical members of the GOP],

It’s come to my attention that you and a number of other self-proclaimed selfless dogooders are determined to “save lives” by practicing sexual reorientation.

As noble a cause as you think that may be, I’m beginning to wonder about your prioritizational skills.

Or, you know, your ability to make sense.

It’s strange to me that you frown upon queerness from a pedestal founded on the “queerness is a choice” principle, but still see using state funds to support a clinic that “helps individuals overcome unwanted same-sex attraction” as justified.

Can queerness be both unwanted and a regrettable life choice?

…Unless you’re suggesting that the choice is in acting on said attraction, rather than forever living in celibacy.

But if that’s the case, I wonder if you understand the concept of “choice,” or, really, how someone such as yourself differentiates between and/or prioritizes the kinds of choices we make every day.

According to you, state funds should never go to the poor, as it was their life choices that led to their demise.  That the poor should pluck up the courage, will, and faith to pull themselves up by their bootstraps [in a crippling economy] and not “be a burden on the tax system.”

No, they don’t get any attention or pity, which explains why state funds not only rely very minimally on the wealthy in your constituency, but also go towards keeping your clinic afloat, and never towards helping those who live under the poverty line.

Let me help you out, Rep. Bachmann: as a queer, I lead a very happy, fulfilled life.  I have a job, I love my family and friends, and I have high hopes for my future.

That said, I would like you to know that you can keep your money.

Save it.

Spend it on something more useful, and more beneficial to the people you vowed to serve to the best of your ability.

Use it to make a little sense.

Thanks,
Power Pussy

PS
Someday, when it’s my time to “meet my maker,” I’ll find comfort in knowing that I’ll be able to say I lived my life fully by loving everyone wholly and unconditionally, rather than suggesting that there is such a thing as Wrong Love.
